Summer is the perfect time to take your pet on a trip. Whether it’s a week-long vacation or just a weekend getaway, there is plenty of pet-friendly fun to be had in cities all over the world.
Summer is a great time to go on a pet-friendly vacation because of the outdoor activities available, many of the top things to do with pets on a trip are outdoors.

1. Choose a Pet-Friendly Destination
Many of the pet-friendly activities in a city are outdoors, which makes summer a favorite season to travel with your pet.
During the summertime, the beach, lakes, and rivers are an ideal hot spot for your pets to escape the heat. Depending on where you’re going, some cities are not as dog-friendly as they appear.
2. Watch Your Pet’s Feet
Summer is a beautiful season, but during the heatwaves and hotter days, it can be hard on your pet.
Always check the ground with your feet before taking your pet on a walk. Leave your feet on the ground for The sidewalks and roads may be surprisingly hot and hurt their feet, blistering and causing abrasions.
If the ground is too hot, pick up your pet, push them in a stroller, put on pet shoes, or head to a shaded or grassy area. The ground is often a lot hotter than the air, especially in the direct sun.
3. Keep Cool
If your hot, chances are your pet is even hotter! Make sure to give your pet plenty of water and take breaks in the shade when playing outside.
Pets overheat because they get so excited and ignore their body’s signs that its time to take a break. They may need to be encouraged to rest and stop playing. Short-nosed breeds of cats and dogs especially are prone to overheating.
Water-related activities are great fun for you and your pet and also help them keep cool. See if there’s a dog-friendly beach or lake nearby. If there’s not, you can get a cheap kiddie pool from Walmart or another supermarket and fill it with water for your pet to cool down.
