When it comes to underwear, do you go for style, comfort, or a little bit of both? Maybe you reach for the softest, coziest fabric for a weekend of Netflix. Or if you have a date night coming up, maybe you want to reach for something a little more special.
But before you do, ask yourself — is being uncomfortable worth impressing someone else?

Considering A Survey…
A recent survey discovered that two-thirds of women say their underwear choices aren’t influenced by what their love interest likes.
In an additional study by The Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sui, 70% of women say they purchase underwear based on comfort and practicality. In a long overdue #MeToo era of female empowerment, women are now more interested in finding underwear that fits their taste — instead of solely trying to impress someone else.
However, if you like to dress to impress, more power to you, girl!
One-third of women actually are influenced by what someone else thinks of their underwear — and that’s totally okay too! The goal is to feel empowered, and whether that energy comes from feeling comfortable or feeling sexy — or both — you deserve to feel it! The study found that women 18-34 are the age group most likely to choose underwear based on what their love interest likes.
One reason younger women might be more concerned about the opinions of their love interest is that young adults are less likely to have a steady romantic partner. This goes for both men and women.
In a recent study, 51% of people ages 18–34 said they were unattached. Perhaps singledome is driving young people to want to look their best both in the streets and between the sheets.
So What Should We Go For…
The overall tendency for women to choose comfort over sex appeal marks a cultural shift. The 90’s and early 2000’s celebrated barely-there underwear and encouraged unhealthy model culture.
Thankfully, what society has deemed “sexy” has shifted nearly two decades later. Heather Gramston of Selfridge’s Body Studio says, “the definition of sexy is now defined as how a woman feels when she is wearing something — as opposed to what she looks like in archetypal lingerie created with men in mind.”
This shift doesn’t mean women don’t want to feel sexy. It means we want to feel sexy on our own terms, and not based on social constructs. Beauty is all about being comfortable in your own skin. So no matter what type of lingerie you prefer, remember that nothing’s more sexy than comfortable confidence.

Not sure how to find the comfiest underwear? We’ve outlined some options and their benefits so you can find the perfect pair to match your lifestyle and preferences.
How To Choose The Comfiest Underwear
If you live in a warm or humid environment, make sure to find a breathable cotton blend that wicks away moisture to dry fast and cool quickly. Look for “moisture wicking,” and “breathable” on the label.
Soft and silky
If you’re looking for something more luxurious and ultra-comfy, look for “micro modal” stretch fabric. Make sure to go for a non-pilling fabric so that it stays silky smooth — even after multiple washes.
Light and airy
If you frequently travel, you’ll want underwear with minimal weight and maximum breathability. Some pairs can even be washed and worn again in a few hours. Look for durable and antimicrobial fabric that dries quickly.
If you’re a gym junkie or just live a fairly active lifestyle, you’ll want to go for a soft and stretchy pair of undies that is moisture-wicking as well as cooling. Make sure to look for antimicrobial and anti-odor fabric.
Now that you’re equipped with the knowledge of how to pick the comfiest underwear for your lifestyle, go out there and get comfy!
